More projects from the Quail Stitch

i’ve been super busy saving up for this beauty, which i just bought!
image
my juki serger ( a similar model above )
if you know how tedious it is to make every seam look nice & clean on a regular sewing machine, you’ll know this beauty was worth every penny!
it may just look like a piece of metal to you (which is precisely what it is :) ),but if i ever hope to sell anything which is my goal, this machine is exactly what i need!
here’s a little pic of what it does
image
cuts and sews simultaneously to create seams. love it!
anyways, i promised you projects, so i will deliver! (you’ll have to wait a little while till i do a photoshoot of recent work)

just a really basic skirt with pleating. i love it for layering and charlotte is finally starting to enter autumn (it’s been raining non stop!)
it’s all fresh and crisp (the skirt & the weather) thanks to the help of my serger… & the weather..channel?
let me know what you think!
take care! happy posting!

Projects & Productivity at the Quail Stitch

i promised that this blog would be for design AND projects, so i’m trying to be better at photographing my projects as they come along and as i finish them.
i gained sewing-know-how from my grandmother and my sister, and a lot of the habits my grandma instilled in me (pressing & ironing is a must, being patient and doing things right) have kind of carried me along throughout all this time. For the most part, i’m self-taught, but it would be better to phrase it as self-experimental :). I just practice and practice, and i’m no where near as good as i want to be, but practice and a few clothing projects gone wrong and learning from those mistakes, I am loads better than i was at first.
all that to say, I recognize that there is a bit of talent in me (whether a big bit or a little bit we shall see), and that’s the first step in pursuing something you like to do.
so my goal is to always work on something each day (often times time gets in the way), but that way i’m always practicing, creating my personal style of things, and keeping my creative juices flowing. it helps to make my day loads better.
here are some projects i’ve been working on this past weekend…how-to’s coming soon.

Society 6

let me introduce…SOCIETY6.
the website of opportunity. society6.com is “where artists can connect with unique opportunities, and sell their work as a variety of products.”
in other words, anyone can join up with society6 (artists, designers, art lovers) and create an online studio space where people can view your work, and purchase it in a variety of forms, where YOU make the profit…it’s a community for you to find artists, and where artists like you can be found.
let me show you some examples.
this is one design by artist Nazario Graziano
image
through society6.com he can sell this design as a print (or printed canvas) like above.
and.

a t-shirt (printed on american apparel shirts)
and…
image
a hoodie (also american apparel)
and..

a laptop skin.
and even..
image
an iphone skin.
*even if you don’t wish to sell your work, or even in addition to, they allow to you make posts/and blog about each design straight on your studio profile. likeHERE
you get the idea.. there are plenty of options for getting yourself out there or finding your ideal piece of art.
you can also be selected to be offered through their retails partners..like urbanoutfitters, and threadless.
try it out @

dear readers

one of my favorite parts of blogging is tracking down items for you and myself from all over the internet (via etsy, via blogs, via online stores etc) that will appeal to your designer’s eye. whether they’re independently designed or from our favorite well known brands/stores, i often take hours (with great pleasure) to find things that i enjoy and that i think you will too.
all that being said, i would love requests if you ever happen to have any. whether it be items in a certain design (like the lace post below), for a certain season, for a particular gender, room, gifting ideas…etc, you get the idea!
i will always be more than happy to search down products & ideas for you, and listen to your findings as well. let’s build this friendship, shall we?
*obviously not everyone that may read this blog has a tumblr, and therefore cannot ask questions or give ideas via tumblr.
to do so via facebook find me here
to do so via email…send to the address quailstitch@yahoo.com
or comment below :)
